LIFE
IS A PROVING GROUND...

Ah, life in inside my head...for me, a vacation is a day in which I am able to escape my deep, deep thought patterns, even for a split second, and just enjoy “what will be.” Those days are rare and today is not going to be a vacation day (chuckle). That's okay, I'm used to it.
The thought upon rising this morning was this: first of all that I was grateful for rising, but also that each day is a proving ground, a survival ground of the fittest. Those of us who remain at the end of each day are obviously the fittest and each day is a day of survival. This then, makes me wonder further because usually when you are put to a test there is always a purpose for the test. A proving ground usually has a prize. If you lose well, obviously you have to go somewhere and start over (hence the term and concept of death), but if you win, you get the prize, therefore, if we win at life, what is the prize? Since none of us know the answer it then boils down to our speculation and belief system while here on the proving ground.
We start each day with the instinct to survive. A large part of our routine throughout a day (at least for most) is to eat food to fuel our bodies and in order to get that food we need to obtain money to buy that food as most of us don't live on sustainable farms. To obtain this money we need to earn it (at least the moral people do) and that requires a job (if you stay within the rules of society). We also need to stay healthy and warm which requires clothing and shelter which again, requires money, which again comes back down to that job. Each of us now is competing against each other for that job because we each have a survival instinct to be the one who stays alive. Sure, we are taught to love one another, but when it comes down to the wire, we are ultimately wired to protect ourselves, hence the “fight or flight” instinct in our brains. The problem with this proving ground is this, not everyone starts the battle with the same playing field advantage. Some of us have mental health issues, for instance I have BPD and it takes every ounce of strength I have to get out of bed each morning as it is before I can even approach the playing field, and then I have to go out to the proving ground, but I'm still here so I'm proving something.
This world of ours has good things and good moments and is about what you choose to make of those moments and what you take with you, but it is all about proving what you can do and how strong you are. The saying, “Only the strong survive,” is true for a reason. Notice on your emotionally weak days just how hard it seems to make it. This world wants to chew you up and spit you out if it knows you possess even the slightest glimmer of weakness at any given moment...like a tiger waiting to pounce a wounded prey.
One thing I notice with a few of the people I coach is that it is much easier for them to find and hold onto negative thoughts and connotations, but when I ask them to find the positive ones, they struggle to do so. I find that true for most people, including myself. Isn't it odd that it should be that way and not the other way around? I believe it is the conditioning you are brought up with in your “world” and the proving ground you have always known. Some of us don't have much to prove, some of us were born into worlds in which things just came easily to us or were handed to us while others...that's all we do, day in and day out...fight to stay alive, fight for what we want, fight for everything we have...and yet, we all still have to prove to someone, in some way, something...every day.
My wish for you is this...I hope you have found what matters to you most in your life so you know that what you are proving is ultimately going to be your prize.
