HOW TO LIVE A LIFE...

HOW TO LIVE A LIFE...
(c)2018 – Kimberly D. Miller

I would buy a book entitled, “How To Live A Life.” Wouldn't you? That title would grab my attention from three aisles away in a book store. Now, I have done some research and I know that there are actually several books with that title or variations thereof, but what if it were an actual user's guide, like one that came with your car or refrigerator when your first bought it. One that came with you when you were first born and it was unique to you and you alone. One that pertained to your problems as you went through life, but wouldn't let you peek very far ahead to see how it all turned out. Even more interesting, let's call it a walkthrough. Those of you not familiar with the world of gaming may not know what a walkthrough is, so let me fill you in. A walkthrough does just that...walks you through the game step by step and tells you how to solve each and every step you take through the game. Sometimes there are several ways to solve an issue, task or game, and sometimes just one way, but it tells you how to handle each and every one. I always thought that life needs a walkthrough. The great thing about a walkthrough is this, you choose if you want to use it or not, so it's not like life would be boring, like knowing what would happen before it happened all the time would make it, but you would have the luxury of knowing how to solve certain things or know what was coming some of the time if you chose to, let's say cheat now and then.

Life is blind. Every day that we are granted the gift of a new, fresh, clean slate, we go through it blindly, with or without faith, we don't know what will happen, hence the phrase, “your life can change in the blink of an eye.” The hardest part of life is the blindness, the uncertainty, the change. I think sometimes it's the wanting something so much and not knowing if you can have it or achieve it and then being left with the yearning of it all. The anxiety of having enough money to fulfill our material and physical needs can be debilitating. Not knowing what the person we love most is feeling or thinking can leave us feeling empty and lonely. If we could open a walkthrough book or user's guide to the page we needed and see a few possible answers, we could find the solutions to our many questions, make the adjustments we need and be immediately fulfilled. No more buyer's remorse from shopping trips speding money we don't have to obtain instant gratification. No more hangovers to drown our sorrows over things we cannot control. No more anger, self-loathing or depression.

But, like reading ahead in any good book, it would most likely spoil the ending, dammit. Still, I'd buy it.
