YOU NEED SOME SLAP AND TICKLE EVERY DAY...

That's me in the front row to the left

This past weekend was my birthday and because I try very hard to treat myself to something amazing and special each year (which started out as a way to combat the depression when my mother died), this year I  went back to the places I was raised...Point Arena and Gualala California. A very dear friend of mine, who now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, met me there and we stayed at the B&B in which I used to work. We were fortunate...we saw so many people that we had not seen in years and got to reconnect with them and exchange hugs and laughter and love. I could not have been blessed with a better birthday gift than that of reconnecting with these amazing friends, old and new, who will always be my family. We swapped stories and laughed until we cried and peed a little.

Why do I convey my birthday story? With the hopes that you will or already do add some slap and tickle to your life on a daily basis. Slap yourself on the knee with laughter every chance you get and tickle your fancy doing things that you love...that make you happy and fulfilled. More often than not we take life too seriously and it really isn't...we just tend to make it that way. You must laugh every day as often as possible and know that everything will work out the way you want it to...for the best. Laughing helps us see the lighter side of things...to let go of the silly, little things we hold onto that are not positive in nature. It helps us heal and grow and change. Tickling your fancy is just as important because finding things that mean something to us, that we love, that we are passionate about doing, is part of what makes us who we are. It defines a part of us...the passionate part...the part that is creative and loving and fun and carefree.

Contrary to North-American belief, life is not meant to be about waking up in the morning, going to work, going home, watching t.v. and going to bed. It's about loving one another, spending quality time with family and friends, getting to know one another and to share the things you have in common, doing things that you love to do and are passionate about, and laughing as often as possible. It's about the small, awesome moments in life that take your breath away...every single day. It's about knowing yourself and loving who you are and sharing that with those you care about. It's about love...love for ourselves and love for others.

No matter who you are, what you look like, what you do for a living, who your family is, or where you live...remember to allow yourself a huge, daily dose of slap and tickle because that is what life is all about.
